With a student visa, a qualified non-citizen can enter and remain in Mauritius for the purpose of studying full- or part-time at a university accredited by the Tertiary Education Commission, at a Technical and Vocational Educational and Training (TVET) institution accredited by the Mauritius Qualifications Authority, or as a participant in an accredited practical training program leading to a higher degree.
In order to pursue higher education in Mauritius, a non-citizen must first obtain admission to a recognized tertiary educational institution or TVET institution, which are those that are registered with the Tertiary Education Commission or the Mauritius Qualification Authority, respectively.
The following people fit the requirements for a student visa:
A non-citizen who enrolls in one or more programs at an accredited TVET or higher education institution with the intention of pursuing certain modules full-time for one or two semesters, or a course that will result in a certificate or diploma for a minimum of one academic year.

👉A non-citizen participating in a postgraduate program at a recognized postsecondary educational institution, either full- or part-time (including Masters, MPhil, or Doctoral level).

Application for Student Visa
Applications for student visas should be submitted by the relevant TVET or postsecondary educational institution where the student is enrolled to the Passport and Immigration Office. The trainee or the receiving institution/enterprise in Mauritius should apply directly to the Passport and Immigration Office for a visa to attend a practical training course that is a requirement for higher education.
Documents needed to apply for a student visa:

👉original admission letter from a TVET or accredited educational institution

Any private medical laboratory, clinic, or hospital in Mauritius should perform an HIV test, a Hepatitis B test, and a chest X-ray. The test results and report from the chest X-ray should be given to the Passport and Immigration Office no later than one month following arrival.
Qualification for Residency Permission for foreign nationals to participate in internships, industrial placements (also known as "Stage"), or practical training
👉A non-citizen who wants to improve his or her skills and expertise through practical training, an industrial placement (also known as a "stage"), or an internship must provide the Passport and Immigration Office with proof of acceptance from the appropriate institution or business in Mauritius.

Application for Resident Permit for Industrial Placement or Practical Training for Foreigners
👉The application for entry into Mauritius must be properly completed and signed by the applicant.

👉Evidence in the form of documentation from the foreign educational or training institution or business stating that the training to be completed in Mauritius is necessary to advance the applicant's experience and abilities or is a component of their current course of study. The trainee, the foreign educational institution or business, and the receiving organization in Mauritius should all sign a tripartite agreement. documentary proof of financial stability or availability to cover traineeship and stay expenses in Mauritius.

Granting permission and issuing residence permits to potential trainees
👉The Passport and Immigration Office decides an application for a trainee permit within two weeks of its submission, provided it is complete and has the necessary supporting documentation. Applications without the required paperwork will not be considered.
👉The receiving local organization, firm, or enterprise where the trainee plans to undertake a practical training course, or the trainee overseas, as appropriate, is notified of the application's conclusion by the Passport and Immigration Office.
👉The trainee is then granted authorization by the Passport and Immigration Office to enter Mauritius on a provisional basis for a period of one month.👉To get a Residence Permit (Trainee) for a maximum of six months, the trainee must report to the Passport and Immigration Office, Residence Permit Section, 8th Floor, Sterling House, 9-11 Lislet Geoffroy Street, Port Louis, within two weeks of arriving in Mauritius.
Requirements that must be met in order to issue a trainee residence permit
👉After receiving a residence permit, the trainee is not permitted to receive pay while they are in Mauritius. Nonetheless, the trainee might get a stipend from the receiving organization in Mauritius.
👉It is not necessary for him or her to have a work permit.
Revocation of a residence permit or student visa
If the holder no longer meets the requirements and conditions of the visa or permit, has broken any laws in Mauritius, or provided false or misleading information when applying, the student visa or residence permit for practical training or industrial placement may be cancelled.
